Lake Cerknica is the largest seasonal lake in Europe. Because of its karstic nature, it offers special experiences in all seasons. The two-day programme includes exploring this karst phenomenon in an active and environmentally-friendly way. Using a kayak and a bike, you will visit the most interesting spots on the lake and its surroundings, and learn about the lake’s formation, where the water disappears into the sinkholes, how the people have lived with the lake and what the lake’s significance is for the fragile nature. Just as you will love marvelling at the lake in the natural environment, you will also enjoy learning about the filling and draining of the lake with the help of a living model, which will be presented to you in the Lake Cerknica Museum and Experience Centre - Jezerski hram. There, you will experience the changing nature of the lake in all four seasons. By walking down the nature education trail through Rakov Škocjan, the pearl among Slovenia’s nature parks, you will finish your two-day active experience of the one-of-a-kind karst nature.
