The Karst Museum

The Karst Museum is a permanent exhibition of the greatest treasures of the Classical Karst, hosted by the Notranjska Museum in Postojna. The exhibition takes you on a journey from the formation of the Karst landscape to the modern life in this area. The first floor gives you a dynamic introduction of the Karst: from travelling back into the past and discovering the key factors which enabled the formation of this landscape to the chronological overview of its thousand-year-old development and the presentation of the key Karst areas in Slovenia and the typical phenomena. The second floor introduces you to the most interesting Karst phenomenon - the Karst cave. The mysterious subterranean expanses are presented as the refuges of Ice Age animals, the homes of our ancestors, the hiding places of secret treasures and as a big inspiration for modern man in the area of sports and cave research. The Karst Museum is a unique spot for the presentation of the Classical Karst in Slovenia and around the world and is, at the same time, the ideal educational starting point for discovering Karst phenomena in situ.
