The first stop will be at Lake Cerknica where we will learn about the karst phenomenon of seasonal lakes. Lake Cerknica is one of the best starting points for anyone who enjoys nature and likes to explore the secrets of the karst world. We will watch birds, observe colourful plants, walk along the lake and learn about the cultural landscape marked by the coexistence of people and nature.
We will then drive towards Križna Cave and enter the subterranean world of one of the most beautiful karst caves where we will take a boat ride across an underground lake. 22 emerald lakes are connected with a crystal-clear subterranean stream, small tunnels hide ancient cave bear bones, and the Križna Cave is considered one of the richest caves in the world in terms of the number of species of strictly cave-dwelling animals found inside.
After a short break, we will continue our journey towards Snežnik Castle, which is one of only two castles in Slovenia with its authentic interior still intact. After visiting the castle, we will take a walk through the castle’s park which, together with the castle building, represents a cultural monument of national importance.
At the end of the trip, we will learn what happens when a ceiling of a cave collapses and we will see the Big and Little Natural Bridge in the Rakov Škocjan Regional Park.
The visit to the incredible karst landscape of Rakov Škocjan is where we finish our journey and head back to the starting point.
