Prem Castle

Prem Castle is a medieval castle in the Brkini Hills, which has dominated the entire area of the Reka River Valley for more than 700 years. A museum collection on the castles and mansions of the Reka River Basin is on display in the renovated interior of the castle. The interesting exhibition featuring original castle items takes visitors on a journey from prehistoric hillforts and archaeological heritage, which is especially rich and precious in this part of Slovenia. The mighty stone embankments have changed through the centuries, but their main task has always been protection from foreign invaders. Through the museum exhibition, visitors learn about castle structures through time and their importance on the wider economic and political map of the time. The castle is also home to many myths and legends, the most notable being the story of a secret underground tunnel that connects Prem Castle and Turn Mansion and runs underneath the Reka riverbed. Although many people have searched for this link, it still remains undiscovered. Many events take place at the castle every year, which attract visitors especially in the summer with concerts, artistic events and doors open days.
