Organizator: Notranjski muzej Postojna

In April 1818 the local explorer from Postojna named Luka Čeč, found new trenches in the Postojna cave. These were magnificently decorated with stalagmites and stalactites, offering unforgettable insight into our underground. Since 1819, the cave has been open for visitors and more than 38 million people have visited the cave since its discovery.

The cave`s history of visits is carefully documented. The oldest signatures of visitors can be found in the Old Signatures Trench, while the official memorial books of visitors in the Postojna Cave started in 1819. There is also a special Golden Book from 1857, which is still signed by the most distinguished visitors of the cave. This incredible crowd is made up of visitors of various professions and positions, such as "ordinary mortals" and adventurers like scientists, artists, professors and students, members of various generations of the army, church and secular excellence, members of many state and political delegations and representatives of blue blood from all over the world.

At the exhibition dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the discovery of the interior of the cave, the Notranjska Museum Postojna through selected photographs from its own and from the archives of the Museum of Recent History of Slovenia presents some of the most important visits to the Postojna Cave between 1909 and 1961.

The exhibition will be on display at the Tito Square in Postojna from 16 August to 30 September 2018.
