Vizita na bistriškem – cultural ethnological event
The custom of the Vizita in the Bistrica area dates back to the time of Maria Theresa, when young men were recruited into the imperial army. Although military service is no longer mandatory in Slovenia, reviving this long-standing tradition and cultural heritage remains of great importance.
Vizita participants wear white shirts, attach a flower and a ribbon, and arrive by a decorated wagon adorned with numerous flowers made from crepe paper.
The introduction to military duty is organized by the Ministry of Defence, Administration for Defence Postojna, with the support of the Municipality of Ilirska Bistrica and the Ilirska Bistrica TIC (Tourist Information Centre).
