Carnival has come to Ilirska Bistrica
In the Ilirska Bistrica valley, the customs associated with Carnival have always been an important annual event. Some ethnological masks have been preserved to this day thanks to the dedicated local residents and are known throughout Slovenia and beyond.

Carnival in Cerknica
The highlight of the Carnival in Cerknica is usually the Sunday carnival parade, which follows Friday and Saturday evening celebrations and the children’s masked procession with witches. It always begins “around 12:32”. All the famous Cerknica masks are presented, from the witch Uršula from Slivnica to the dragon Jezerko from Lake Cerknica, and more recently also the Butale bee with a swarm of other bees.
