The Green Karst is Slovenia’s least populated region – a place where you can still find silence, space just for yourself, and the feeling of true wilderness. It stretches across almost 1,500km² of diverse landscapes. Forests cover three quarters of its surface, and more than half of the territory is protected as part of the Natura 2000 network. Among the green expanses roam bears, lynx, and wolves – which you can get to know in a safe and unique way.

Here, where nature and people have been writing remarkable stories for centuries, you will discover the wonders of the karst world: the most visited cave in Europe and the world cradle of Karstology, the largest cave castle in the world, the largest intermittent lake in Europe, and a cave with as many as 22 underground lakes. The forests of Snežnik and Javorniki form the largest continuous forest complex in this part of Europe, home also to primeval forests inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
