On Shrove Tuesday, Postojna is transformed into a lively scene of masks, laughter and carnival treats. The traditional carnival parade fills the streets with the feeling that winter is slowly coming to an end.
The parade brings together a wide variety of masked groups, from children and families to organised carnival associations. They include some of Slovenia’s best-known traditional carnival figures, including the kurenti, laufarji and škoromati.
The festivities are accompanied by relaxed celebrations. Visitors can sample carnival specialities such as doughnuts, flancati and miške (crispy fried pastries), while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere in the streets.
