Waggoners’ Festival
Postojna town centre and Postojna Cave Park
Postojna was once an important stopping place for waggoners transporting goods by horse-drawn wagons between towns and regions. The traditional July festival draws attention with a parade of horsemen and horse-drawn wagons, and a rich accompanying programme.
The Waggoners’ Festival brings Postojna’s historic coaching and transport traditions back to life. The festivities begin in the morning with demonstrations of traditional crafts, displays of vintage vehicles, performances by folklore groups and local associations, competitions, and a tempting selection of regional food and drink. The highlight of the day is the afternoon parade of more than 120 horse riders, horses and horse-drawn wagons. The parade makes its way from the centre of Postojna to the Cave Park, where the celebration continues with folk music, folklore performances, majorettes, accordion music and an evening programme.
