Exploring Lake Cerknica by Boat
The best way to experience Lake Cerknica is on the water. When water levels are high enough, you can explore the lake by canoe, kayak, stand-up paddleboard (SUP) or boat, discovering this remarkable landscape from an entirely new perspective.
Every journey across Europe’s largest intermittent lake is different. As the water level rises and falls, the waterways change revealing bays, reed islands, meadows and fascinating karst features with a rich variety of plants, birds and other wildlife.
You can hire a canoe by the lake or arrange a guided trip with a local guide. If you have your own boat, kayak or SUP, you’re welcome to explore independently. Please be sure to follow the local navigation rules and nature conservation restrictions at all times. Boating can affect sensitive and endangered wildlife, so always check the current water level and the areas where navigation is permitted before setting out.
Important: always check the latest conditions before your visit.
