Nature Explorers’ Walk
This guided experience introduces children to the forest through play and natural materials while teaching them how to behave responsibly in nature. The shorter programme gives them the experience of creating a shared work of art, while the longer programme leaves them with a print that encourages them to look for objects in the wild.
The experience begins with a short discussion about respectful behaviour in both urban and natural environments. Children then create their own exploration tool. During the shorter 90-minute programme, they make an activity guide with simple observation challenges before setting off on a short walk to the edge of the forest. There, they collect natural materials and work together to create a large artwork entitled Colours.
The extended programme, lasting up to three hours, offers even more opportunities for creativity. Each child receives a piece of fabric to print with large nature-inspired stamps. While the prints are drying, the group heads into the forest to gather natural materials used to make paints. Each child takes home their printed fabric, which can be used as a napkin, a cloth bundle or an exploration aid for future adventures in nature.
