The Prem Castle, a guardian of the Reka River Valley
For more than 700 years, the Prem Castle reigns on the edge of Brkini– a mighty fortress guarding the Reka valley from a hill. Today, the restored castle invites visitors with a museum collection on the castles and manor houses of the Reka basin, which reveals the rich archaeological heritage and the importance of castle fortifications in the past.
The exhibition tells the story from prehistoric hillforts to medieval castles with original items, and the visit is enriched by a number of legends and myths. The most mysterious is the one about the underground tunnel that supposedly connected the Prem Castle to the Turn Mansion under the riverbed – a connection that researchers are still searching for in vain.
Today, Prem Castle is not only a museum, but also a living cultural stage. In the summer months, it comes to life with music concerts, art events and open days attracting visitors from near and far. You can combine a visit to the castle with a walk in Brkini and views of the picturesque Reka Valley.
