Eco-museum of the Pivka Intermittent Lakes
In the Slovenska vas village near Pivka, you will discover the secret of the appearance and disappearance of as many as 17 intermittent lakes that are present in the valley and follow the rhythm of nature. An interactive exhibition explains how the special geological structure as well as irregular and seasonal rainfall create this natural wonder. Learn about how groundwater works by turning a special wheel.
Particular attention is drawn to the rich diversity of animal and plant species: researchers have counted 182 species of plants, 211 species of beetles, 106 species of butterflies and 133 species of birds. Large carnivores – bears, wolves and lynxes – have also found their shelter here. The exhibition is complemented by a model of the area, short films and a presentation of the different habitats
The Eco-museum is also accessible for people with disabilities – it has a lift, accessible toilets, a model for the blind and visually impaired, panels with content for the deaf and a hearing loop for the hard of hearing.
