Hunting Collection and Dormouse Museum
In the homestead of Snežnik Castle a special experience of the natural and cultural heritage of the Lož Valley awaits you. Hunting Collection presents trophies of native game from the area of Snežnik and Lake Cerknica, which testify to the richness of the local forests and the centuries-old hunting tradition.
Of particular interest is Dormouse Museum, the only one of its kind in Slovenia, where you can learn about the life and characteristics of dormice and the ancient tradition of the of dormouse hunting. This form of hunting, first mentioned in the area in the 13th century, is still part of the identity and culture of the Lož Valley today.
The museum shows how dormice were once used for food, in household chores and crafts. Today, dormouse hunting is part of a living tradition and a major tourist attraction.
