Planinska cave with the confluence of underground rivers

On the southern edge of Planina Field, in the immediate vicinity of Ravbar Tower, is one of the most magnificent karst caves in Slovenia. The almost 7km long water cave contains one of the largest underground confluences in Europe. This is where the river joins Rak from Rakov Škocjan and the river Pivka from Postojna Cave. Together they merge into the river Unica.

The cave impresses with its varied halls, lakes, dripstones and abundance of animal species. It is home to more than 100 animal species, including 60 aquatic species. It is in the Planina Cave that the largest population of olms in Slovenia hides, but you will also encounter bats, shrimps and other tiny inhabitants of the underground.

Types of tour

  • Classic tour (approx. 1 hour): a walk along a 500 m long safe path to the confluence of the underground rivers.
  • Long boat tour (7–8 hours): an adventure, possible only at low water level, with prior reservation.

Practical information
