Snežnik, 1796m
The highest peak of the Green Karst is worth the ascent for panoramic views from the Adriatic Sea to the highest peaks of the Julian Alps. The 1796-metre-high Snežnik is protected as a botanical reserve due to its rich flora.
Several hiking trails lead up the mountain, which also protects beech forests. From Sviščaki, where the road from Ilirska Bistrica leads, it is a 2-hour walk for experienced hikers to the Draga Karolina lodge just below the summit. You can also take the trails through Mali Snežnik or from the Leskova valley.
Interesting cycle paths around Snežnik are also worth a visit, revealing the natural and historical richness of the area. Part of the route follows the area of the former Rapallo border.
