UNESCO Beech Forests of Snežnik
The slopes of the 1796-metre-high Snežnik are covered with mighty primary forests. They are part of the ancient and primary beech forests of the Carpathians and other areas of Europe listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
These forest stands allow you to observe the life of nature without human intervention – from the role of fallen trees to the independent regeneration of the forest. Their location between the Adriatic and mainland Europe, and the height of Snežnik, where the beech tree has its natural timberline, make these forests a world phenomenon.
The guided tour, with the utmost respect for nature, introduces the visitor to the ecology of the primary forest, the importance of preserving primary forests and all the diversity of the fauna and flora.
