Mt. Križna gora, 856 m

Rising between the Lož Valley (Loška dolina) and the Cerknica Polje, Križna Gora is a scenic viewpoint crowned by the impressive pilgrimage Church of the Holy Cross. From the summit, sweeping views extend across the Loška Valley towards Mt. Snežnik, over Lake Cerknica nestled between the Javorniki Hills and Mt. Slivnica, and across the Bloke Plateau.

The hilltop was once the site of a prehistoric hillfort, later a fortified Roman settlement, and during the Ottoman incursions it served as a refuge for the inhabitants of the surrounding villages. Its heritage as a place of pilgrimage lives on in the Church of the Holy Cross, the Stations of the Cross chapels, and works of art by the Baroque master Fortunat Bergant.

Several walking routes lead to the summit. One of the most popular starts in Lož, near the Kovinoplastika Lož headquarters. From there, it follows a tarmac road to the village of Sveta Ana before continuing past the Stations of the Cross chapels to the top. The walk can be extended into a circular route via the village of Podlož, passing the restored Grič Chapel before returning to Lož.
